The education team at Houston Landing invites you to share your insights and experiences to help us shape our coverage at a Community Newsroom event on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at Julia C. Hester House in Houston.
Powerful journalism starts with the voices of the community, and this event is an opportunity for you to share your perspectives and help shape the coverage that informs and inspires positive change in Houston. It’s a way for you to collaborate directly with the newsroom on our journalism.
Previous Community Newsroom insights have led to coverage updates. For example:
- We heard people want a place to ask questions and get clear answers. So we launched Answer Key, a Q&A feature in which you can submit queries through a form at the end of each article.
- We heard people want more visual data points to make things easier to understand. So, we’ve included more graphics in stories like this one on Aldine ISD leadership shortcomings.
“One of the things that delights me is how insightful our community members are,” said Amber Bruner-Allicock, Landing Director of Membership and event facilitator. “They have ideas and resources that we have not tapped into yet, or haven’t thought of, but which would be beneficial to all.”
The newly expanded Landing education team will be there to take story suggestions, answer questions and listen to ideas, including HISD reporter Asher Lehrer-Small, community college reporter Miranda Dunlap and editor Jacob Carpenter.
“My main goal is to provide useful information to Houston ISD families, leaders and community members,” said Lehrer-Small. “I love the Community Newsroom events because they help me calibrate to make sure the angles and topics I’ve been focusing on are the ones that our audience wants to read about.”
