Houston Landing hosted a touching storytelling event titled “Love and Heartbreak” at the historic Eldorado Ballroom Feb. 12. The evening brought together four Houstonians to share their personal tales of true romance, heartache and self-love.
The full video is below, but if you’ve only got a moment, we recommend checking out the following sections:
Attendees heard from diverse voices sharing poignant moments from their love lives, encompassing everything from joyful beginnings to challenging endings.
- At 4:55 Tracie Jae, Founder and Lead Rebel at Quiet Rebel, talks about what she learned and when she started to find herself after her second marriage ended. She says: “ When I was in my first marriage I gave birth to my daughters and in my second marriage, I gave birth to myself.”
- At 16:08 Manny Garcia, Editor-in-Chief at Houston Landing, talks about meeting exactly the right woman at exactly the wrong time, but finally getting together, and celebrating their third wedding anniversary, 25 years later.
- At 29:50 Hayley Stacy, a development officer at BakerRipley, talks about a friendship that bloomed into a relationship at the start of the Pandemic, and how, amid the sweet honeymoon period of the early days, and the challenging later years of cross-country moves, and the deaths of two family members, their love grew, and now they’ve got a wedding date on the calendar.
- At 44:32 Molly Voorhees, who runs both Becks Prime and Winfields Chocolate Bar, talks about how a Valentine’s Day at The Chocolate Bar one year reconnected her to her sense of romance and joy after losing a bit of it amid jobs, kids and the endless obligations of a rich everyday life.
Houston Landing uses live storytelling to create connection as part of our mission: to serve and reflect our communities, to connect people to each other and to solutions, and to create empathy among us as neighbors.
By sharing their tales of love, our storytellers and attendees created an evening filled with emotion and connection, true to Houston Landing’s mission of reflecting and serving our community. We hope to see you at our celebration of the Rodeo spirit March 24.
