To our readers:
It is with great sadness that I am writing to you today. Our Board of Directors have voted to shut down Houston Landing. Houston Landing anticipates it will cease publishing by mid-May of this year.
This decision was not made lightly and comes amid a challenging financial environment that has made long-term sustainability unattainable. We were not able to build the additional revenue streams needed to sustain ongoing operational needs.
Since our inception, Houston Landing has been proud to deliver high-quality, nonpartisan journalism to the greater Houston community. We believed then — as we do now — that our region deserves free, independent reporting that informs, uplifts and holds power to account.
We are immensely proud of the work we’ve done and the impact we’ve made. Houston Landing has shown what’s possible when a news team commits itself to truth and transparency. Our stories highlighted voices that too often go unheard, sparked conversations that matter and helped inspire positive change throughout the city we love.
We’ve prompted proposed legislation changes that protect Houston students; connected the community to changemakers; and provided the growing Latino community with critical news in Spanish.
To our extraordinary team of editors, reporters, photojournalists, audience experts,
fundraisers, marketers and staff: thank you. Your dedication, integrity and passion have been the heartbeat of Houston Landing.
Every word, every photo, every digital innovation reflected your tireless commitment to our mission. To my colleagues on the leadership team, a special thanks: your commitment, ideas and support mean everything.
To our readers, supporters and community partners: thank you for believing in us. Thank you for standing with us, for sharing our stories, and for making Houston Landing more than just a publication, but a force for good.
Though our newsroom is closing, the need for strong, independent local journalism remains. I hope you will support others in continuing the vital work of informing and empowering the people of greater Houston.
