Houston Landing invites you to our first live storytelling event. You’ll feel charmed, inspired, and maybe even a little hungry.
On Tuesday, Oct. 22, at MATCH Theater in downtown Houston, we will host an evening of stories centered around food and hospitality, as told through people, recipes and places.
Tellers are:
- David Cordua – Chef and owner at The Lymbar
- Cherif Mbodji – Director of Operations and Partner at Bludorn, Bar Bludorn and Navy Blue
- Yvette Leno – Founder and Director of Beauty’s Community Garden
- Josh Deleon – Founder of Underground Creamery
- Katie Stone – President of the Cleverley Stone Foundation, which runs Houston Restaurant Weeks
HTX Stories is a project rooted in relationship building—between Houston Landing and you and among community members themselves. The project’s goal is to serve and reflect Houstonians by celebrating shared values through personal stories.
“I’m excited to sit with my peers in the industry and share my perspective as someone very new to the hospitality industry and navigating through it day by day,” said Josh Deleon, founder and ice cream maker at Underground Creamery.
The 90-minute show is the brainchild of Houston Landing’s chief of strategy and engagement, Megan Finnerty, who is also a storytelling coach and event curator. Through her previous work at the USA Today Network, her best practices have helped more than 6,500 people tell stories in front of 100,000 community members in 25 cities across America.
“Houston is a city of stories, and we are so lucky to have the opportunity to help people share theirs,” Finnerty said. “This is a fun and affirming evening, and will leave you feeling more connected to this city.”
Newsroom staffers coach the storytellers to ensure they’re prepared and that each story is compelling and relevant to the audience. This is a way the Landing is demonstrating its investment in the city and its people.
