According to complete but unofficial returns, Vice President Kamala Harris received a little more than half of all votes cast in Harris County through Tuesday, 51.8 percent to President-elect Donald Trump’s 46.5 percent.
It was a tighter race locally than the 2020 election, in which Trump received only 42 percent of the Harris County vote while President Biden received about 56 percent. Four years earlier, Trump received just 41 percent of the vote; Hillary Clinton received about 54 percent.
In other words, Trump gained ground in Harris County since 2016 while the Democratic presidential nominee saw gains in 2020, but dropped this year.
Harris received 802,370 votes throughout the county compared to 720,046 for Trump, but that margin varied by region.
The map above shows the difference in share of votes captured by both campaigns with the red shades showing a larger winning margin for Trump and blue shades showing a larger winning margin for Harris. The central Houston area leaned toward Harris by larger margins than the immediately surrounding areas while Trump found greater support in the outer parts of the county.
