Rigorous
Being rigorous means creating systems and practices that ensure accuracy in every piece of journalism, with accountability internally and externally, accompanied by ongoing training and support to ensure Houston Landing is seen as credible by people from all walks of life.
Responsible
Journalism has clear ethical boundaries that are consistently updated by key organizations, and we will pursue systems and practices that ensure all staffers are in alignment with these. But we will go beyond these efforts so we don’t repeat the harms of those who’ve come before us. We will engage in ongoing training and coaching to ensure we are in alignment with our communities as we report for them.
Relevant
Being relevant looks like cultural competence for each story, with each audience, on each platform, each time. To do this, we will be obsessed with understanding our audiences and listening to feedback from them.
Relational
We are always listening and learning so we can more clearly reflect our audiences and more meaningfully serve them. We commit to being in a two-way conversation everywhere our audiences connect with us, and getting the training and coaching necessary to maintain it.
Rooted
This newsroom is staffed with Houstonians and those passionate about Houston, reporting on Houston and Harris County with a commitment to underserved communities. We report for, not on, the communities we cover by living in and spending time in these spaces with events, listening sessions and more.
